This is not medical advice
This page reflects what the Dutch medicines authority (CBG) and food authority (NVWA) publish, and where those sources are silent. It is not medical advice, not a replacement for the package leaflet, and not a judgement on whether a medicine suits you. Never change or stop medication based on this page. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist, who can also consult sources that are not public.
Why this exists
The information is public but unusable. The full excipient list of every licensed medicine sits in the official product information. To find out whether it contains lactose you have to open a PDF per medicine and scroll to section 6.1. Comparing across medicines is impossible. We processed all 19,421 and translated the excipients into allergens.
Searching for a word gives dangerous nonsense. Searching the source data for the Dutch word for milk returns 195 medicines. Four actually contain milk protein; the other 191 contain lactic acid, which has nothing to do with dairy. Those false matches are deliberately excluded here. In the other direction, lactose appears under four spellings in the source and soy under twelve.
Unknown is its own answer. For thousands of medicines the source says only "starch" without the grain. Maize starch is harmless, wheat starch contains gluten. The same goes for gelatin: bovine, porcine or fish is often not stated. Those medicines are marked uncertain here, never "free from". An allergy tool that guesses is worse than none.
What is and is not included
Included: the excipients exactly as the manufacturer declared them in the official product information, and every Dutch food safety warning since 2023 in which an allergen was missing or wrong on the label.
Not included: the active substance itself, cross-contamination during production ("may contain traces"), devices that are not medicines, and food products generally. For food, Open Food Facts is the better source; that project already does it well and for free.
Mind the date. The data was retrieved on 19 August 2026. Manufacturers change formulations. The leaflet in the package you are holding always takes precedence.
